On Sunday I went with Jamie to her brother Ryan's ward where we got to see him bless his new baby girl. Afterwards we went to Jamie's parent's house where I got to meet a bunch of her extended family. I loved meeting her grandparents! They are just the cutest old couple with quite the posterity. I also loved meeting her Aunt Relia who I chatted with for about half an hour about the book Anatomy of Peace that we both recently read. Everyone I met was very kind and welcoming. I can see where Jamie gets her sweet disposition.
When the party died down, we drove up to north Provo where there is a beautiful cemetery overlooking all of Utah Valley. We sat on a bench with my arm around her chatting and admiring the view for about an hour before we came back to my apartment to watch the CES fireside with Elder Bednar. Then we went back to her apartment where we wrote letters to our missionary siblings and sang a Brazilian song called “Ainda Existe Um Lugar” with her on guitar.
Then before I went home we went for a walk. I had been wanting to talk to her for a while about where our relationship was going. After chatting for a while I came out and told her that I liked her very much and wanted to know where she stood. I told her that I was willing to take things at whatever pace she felt comfortable with, but that it would make me very happy to take our relationship to the next level. She didn't say anything for a little while. I could tell that she had thought a lot about this already. Then with a big smile she looked at me and said the words that were music to my ears, “I would love to be your girlfriend.” She said that before she started dating me she had decided to take a break from serious relationships, because of difficult recent relationships she had been in. But after just 6 weeks of us dating, she was realizing that what she had thought the Lord had wanted her to do didn't seem to be what He had in mind after all.
After that I held her tight for a long moment and then gently kissed her for the first time. It was such a sweet moment that I will never forget! Then I picked her up and carried her to her door where I said goodnight and left. I drove home the happiest I think I've ever been in my life!
To show her how happy I was to be dating her, I woke up early on Tuesday morning and left a bouquet of roses with a bag of twix on her doorstep for her to find. The note read, “I hope these flowers make you as happy today as you make me every day.” When she found them she sent me a text saying that I make her the happiest girl in the world. I'm glad that she liked them. :)
Yesterday my knee was hurting so instead of going on a run together we decided to ice my knee by standing in the Provo river! It was such a crazy idea, but it turned out to be the funnest experience ever! We drove up to a park by the Riverwoods mall where we waded into the river until the water came up to my mid-thigh and stood there shivering, laughing and holding each other for about 10 minutes. I surprised her by bringing some origami boats that we set loose on the river. Sadly they quickly got caught in some rapids and capsized. :) We took some cute pictures and then drove back to campus since she had class. She is so full of excitement and adventure. I love that she gets me out of my comfort zone and motivates me to try new things! What a blessing Jamie is in my life. I'm not sure what I ever did to deserve such an awesome girl. I hope I can hang onto her for a long time. :)
